Attacks while stacked
Friday, October 12th, 2007This sequence begins when an opponent tries to pass your guard and you end up stacked. It seems like the most important biomechanic is to spread your knees so your thighs are very heavy on your opponent’s upper arms. A lot of these moves are very positional. It doesn’t seem like you can muscle your way through any of these moves.
Lumberjack sweep to arm bar
- Stacked from standing guard pass
- Drop butt to ground and grab opp’s ankles
- Push down with legs while pulling on ankles
- Sit up into mount
- Transition to arm bar
Arm crank variation
I couldn’t stick this move even one time. I had a real hard time getting any leverage with my stubby legs.
- Opponent has hooks under your legs
- Establish sleeve control
- Drop thighs low on opponent’s arms
- Scramble back and push down with thighs to control opponent’s arms
- Plant left foot on opponent’s hip and hip drive to create space between bodies
- Drive your foot across opponent’s body and hook it at belt line
- Hip out to the right and straighten leg to crank the arm
Guillotine variation
- After establishing sleeve control, hook both feet
- Scramble back and sit up, pushing down with thighs to control arms
- Reach under opp’s neck to get a collar guillotine
- User other arm to push opp’s head down and lock behind the guillotine arm
- Lean forward to tighten the choke
Back-mount variation
This move is a lot of fun, but the setup is somewhat intricate. As I write this down, I’m convinced I’m forgetting something very important but for the life of me I can’t remember what it is.
- After establishing arm control by pushing down on thighs
- Grab back of opponent’s belt
- Bring leg over belt arm to counter opponent’s attempt to pass
- Switch hands on belt while posting other arm back behind you
- Post leg on same side as belt grip
- Hip-out to sweep by pulling guarding leg under and through
- End in mount with one arm in the crook of your leg and the other pinned by other knee
