Escape from back control to half-guard
Today Shawn taught us how to escape from back mount. The most important thing is to neutralize the choking arm with a two-on-one attack. Shawn showed us an attack that consists of pulling down on the choking arm with a monkey grip while using your other hand to push down on the choking arm with the V between your thumb and forefinger. The second biomechanic that Shawn stressed was to get your head way past your opponent’s head by wiggling your shoulders through his arms. Finally Shawn stressed the importance of getting your shoulders flat on the ground before trying to finish the escape.
- Neutralize the choking arm
- Push back with heels so you’re on top of your opponent and your back is grinding down into his face
- Step out and over to the side so your body is perpendicular to your opponent
- Get your shoulders on the ground
- Counter mount attempt by hooking leg
- Hip out into half-guard
